Self evaluation of my academic year (2009)
Well, is the end of the academic year! It was so fast… really, measures not already the year is over. I think that this year was very odd for me. I think that there is still time... BUT not really!
Last year, at the end of the year, at this time I felt I had spent much more time, and I felt that had spent much more things and that I had done things… now...
Is has the year had less time. But is impossible, because the al the year have the same amount of time, of month and days... Then, what happened?
Well, really, I think know what happened. Last year was a time in that I made a lot of things, and where I was much more excited and whit more energy… unlike today. Today I feel less excited and I feel less energy, so, I am discouraged, tired… slower. It’s very curious and funny at the same time, how when a person is discouraged and slow, thinks everything is at your own pace… until one day you realize that really this is not so, because all the world and all people… all go to the normal rhythm, fast, and the only person who is outside… it is you.
It is what I feel today, and in this sense, being consistent, I can’t say that this was a good year. I do not think it was a bad period, but I think that it can be better. I think that my life during this time was very flat, too flat in all aspects, in absolutely every way.
One year is long time, in which a person can do lot of things, and can change a lot. I did neither the one nor the other.
Academically, It year was awful, because I have been very distracted, dispersed, and I have not put adequate attention to the university issues. I lower my performance, but the worse is that I feel that I miss a lot of instances to learning, and deepen knowledge that interest me.
In other ways, I feel that I miss the chance to do things I enjoy, like spots or dance, or simply relax, or be with people I love.
Well, for all this reasons, this self evaluation of my academic year, but not only of my academic year, my year in all the aspects, is negative. All I can say is that the next year thinks will be better.

Challenges of Anthropology
Well, I think that anthropology is currently facing many challenges, in almost all areas of their day. In this university, anthropology has many shortcomings in Technology, because there is a little technology implementation, but these issues are really important in the areas like archeology and physical anthropology, where the technology can be very helpful in the discovery and greatly facilitates the work. In Social Anthropology, is important to have more advanced computer programs to process and analyze information, qualitative data. In therms of diffusion and implementation of more advanced computational technologies our university is long overdue, and the students are poorly prepared to use it.
About the Social Matters, I think that is maybe one of the biggest challenges, because the main objective of the anthropologists is to interfere in social matters, that is to say be able to generate knowledge useful to society, and I think that today, this aspect in the Chilean anthropology is very puny, because the government does not consider the importance of the social scientist. I think that is very important that there a direct relationship between the social reality and the work of the anthropologist and generally with the anthropological endeavor.
In the education aspect, I think that is important that the discipline can be more open and accessible to all people. I think that is important to generate more diffusion about the topics of the social sciences, and specifically about the anthropology, especially in reference to the contributions that anthropology can make. In this sense, would be interesting massify the anthropological knowledge. In other hand, I think that the anthropological training should be more strongly related to the practice field. This should be a constant feedback. About the career of anthropology, I think that the students should be more involved with all the universities where is the career and with the neighboring countries. It´s important to have a more thorough knowledge about the other types of anthropology, the development of the anthropology in other places, in other ways, and thus to achieve a much more critical view.

Anthopology and/or money

Anthropology and/or Money

Well, I think that if the people enter to study anthropology is because they aren’t so interested in money. In my personal case, for me, obviously, money is important, but I don’t choose this career for win money. For me is more important the anthropology than the money, because I think that if you has to choose a profession, must choose to do what you like. And I like the social sciences so much, and particulary anthropology. It is my ideal work area, but I know that if I want to work in anthropology in the future, I didn’t make much money.

I think that anthropology is a career in that you don’t make much money, because the labor camp is very limited, and there is little demand for anthropologist. For this reason, the people that choose anthropology, should know and decide about money case, but is impossible that you enter to this career to win money.

I think that in most cases, for anthropologist is difficult to make money, but also influences in what area you seeking work. For example, if you want work to privet enterprises, you have more possibilities to win more money, and in some cases, you can win a lot of money. But this cases are minority, and often entail an ethical problem, because when the anthropologist work for a privet enterprises, can only do what the company needs, putting aside personal interests, and social interests.
Usually, the social issues have poor remuneration because neither the state nor the private funds have great interest in developing projects related to these issues.

I don’t think that an anthropologist can´t find work, but I think that perhaps the main problem is to finding work in the area what you like to work. The anthropologist can work postulating to state projects, or state funds. This cases, the work area is in human development issues, but today in the world, and particulary in Chile, this issues are very limited, because the government promotes projects on subjects that having to do with global policies covered by a limited paradigm that does not cover all areas where it is necessary to develop cultural studies, and therefore does not cover the whole spectrum of issues on which can unfold an anthropologist.

The matter is further complicated when it comes to developing theoretical anthropology, because in this case, there is even less agencies interested in funding research that have no obvious practical application

Well, that is the issues.

On the other hand, today I'm not making money, because I don' t have much time to work, but I need to make some money for pay my expenses, but probably in the summer, when I have more free time, I gotta a job.

music

Well, I don’t have a favorite kind of music because I like a lot of different styles, singers and songs. In general, I like the latinamerican music. It’s a very general category, but I like almost the whole latinamerican music (I like the rock, the folklore, etc.)

I don’t feel that I have a favorite band or singer, because it’s different in the time, it’s depends on many circumstances, but in this moment the music to that more I listen is from charly garcía, but I like so much the music from Argentina in general, especially the rock music from the 80`s, but also, one of my favorite music styles is the tango.
I have a lot of favorite songs, most of they are from charly Garcia: they are “filosofia barata y zapatos de goma”, “pasajera en trance”, “asesiname” and “cinema verité”. Also, I like the music from the old bands of charly, serú girán y sui generis. Of the latter, my favorite sing are “el dia que apagaron la luz”, and “usame un poquito mas”. From the tango, my favorite sings are “volver”, “milonga sentimental”, “nostalgias”, “anclao en Paris”, “malena”, and “garganta con arena”. And my favorite singer is Carlos Garden, of course!
I’ve gone go to concerts in many times. The first time was when I had fourteen years old. On this occasion I went to see to fito paez, and in the next time, I went to see charly garcía. Also, I’ve gone to see joe vasconcellos, los jaivas, inti Illimani, manuel Garcia, los tres, vicentico, la mano ajena, etc.
Well, really, I don’t play any musical instrument. In the school, I learned to play some flute, but now I forget it

TRANSANTIAGO >> BEFORE AND AFTER

Well, in my opinion it is a transport system that has good and bad aspects:

I think that to implement a reform in the public transport is a good initiative, because the old public transport was not very good, was out to order, but the Transantiago wasn’t a solution, because is implementation was awful.

The project wasn’t plan adequately for the Santiago city. The plan was copy from other countries, but it wasn’t according to our city. The routes were design badly, and the travels take a lot of time.

When this system start, it was a disaster because was implement poorly, and the people suffer a lot of troubles. The first year of the transantiago was an absolutely chaos, but now, the system is a little bit better, but in my opinion “even isn’t a good transport system.

In my personal experience, Transantiago isn’t a problem, because I live out of the city, and I don’t use this system all the time, and after, when was the old public transport system I wasn’t use it, so, in my experience, I can’t to make a comparison.

I think that the system will have to improve slowly and adapt to the necessities of the people of the Santiago city.

a country I would like to visit: Mexico

Well, I would like to visit a lot of countries, such as Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, China, India, but now, the country that most I would like to visit is Mexico.
I would like to go there because is a magnificent country, it is huge, is one of the largest countries in the world, and has a very diverse geography: it have mountains, plains, volcanoes, and beaches.
Also, Mexico has a huge range of climates: cold, temperate, humid climate, and tropical.
I think that it's if very funny, with many beautiful places to visit, and to learn. It has heavenly beaches and populous cities. It is very attractive for tourism.

I's a country rich in diversity, not all in geography, in culture too.
In it's great extension there a lot of different people, customs, ethnicity, and I like this.
Also, Mexico has a very interesting history, because it housed some of the greatest civilizations in the world: Maya and Azteca. Actually, this country has monumental ruins, and is one of the places more interesting for the archeology.

I would like to go to Mexico, in a few year more years, to go to study. I want to do a postgraduate anthropology related when I finish my career

My ideal job: Indiana Jones

Well I have dreamed about my favourite job since I was little and I passed trought many options; doctor, nurse, architect, astronaut, actress but here I am studying to become an archeologist.
It's curios becouse before entering to the university I had the image of an archeologist more like an indiana jones type, running away from cannibals triying to find a lost civilization all that in a tropical island. But going back to reality I would like to develop the archeology here in chile o maybe in Perú specifically in the North, becouse I have special interest in cultures like moche and chimú. There's a lot of unexplored material there and It would be interest to find something new. Also I would like to teach here a the University becouse I think It's a good way to develop investigations and proyects.
I think the first option is a little bit difficult but not impossible, but I see the second one more near I just need to be an excelent student and work very hard.
